Poet
Antoinette has always written. Not for applause, not for publication — but because the words needed somewhere to go. Poetry became her way of processing a world that doesn’t always make space for truth. Her work covers the terrain most writers avoid: the texture of discrimination, the complexity of loving imperfect people, the terror and freedom of becoming who you actually are. She writes in plain language with profound weight — nothing performed, everything felt.
Publishing under the name J’Kai Poetry, she has built a following of readers who return because her words find them — in the quiet of a sleepless night, in the middle of a grief they can’t name, in the exact moment they needed permission to feel exactly what they’re feeling.
ABOUT ME
More than a poet. A witness.
Antoinette’s philosophy is simple: poetry should not be a closed door. It should not require translation. The best poem, she believes, is one that a reader finishes and thinks — that was about me. How did she know?
Her themes grew naturally from her life — the experience of being Black in spaces that weren’t built for her, the long labour of growth, the deep particular joy and pain of loving people well. She doesn’t write to teach. She writes to witness.
"I write because someone out there is living a story that deserves to be told."
Each poem in her collection began as a private thought — and became something shared. That act of sharing, she says, is the whole point.
Antoinette reads every message. Whether you want to say a poem found you at the right moment, or you have a question about her work — reach out.
